Chris Horney joined Murphy Asset Management, LLC in 2013 as Senior Associate on the Development team. He brings a wealth of real estate and finance experience to his role ranging from real estate/asset investment modeling to analysis and allocation strategy. He supports the team by analyzing and underwriting commercial real estate development and acquisition opportunities and is actively involved in the management of all development projects.
Mr. Horney is currently involved in the day-to-day management and oversight of the firm’s development initiatives including the Hyatt Centric “The Loop” Chicago,” a redevelopment of 100 W. Monroe, a 183,275 square foot historic office high-rise in Chicago into a 257-room, full-service hotel; the 88,000 square foot redevelopment of the Chicago Motor Club building at 68 E. Wacker into a 143-room, select-service Hampton Inn; and a 237,200 square foot redevelopment of the Oriental Theater Building at 32 W. Randolph into a 199 room Cambria Suites hotel.
Prior to joining Murphy Asset Management, LLC, Horney was an associate at Inland American where he assisted with a REIT-wide asset allocation strategy as well as the sale of a $2.3 billion portfolio of assets. In addition, he modeled and underwrote multiple hotel assets for purchase for Hersha Hospitality Trust (NYSE: HT), a hospitality REIT based in Philadelphia. Mr. Horney also brings construction experience to his new role, having begun his career as a project engineer during which time he implemented a building information modeling system which generated a first-year savings of $10 million for his firm.
Mr. Horney is a graduate of Harvard University’s Business School, with a Masters in Business Administration. He obtained his Bachelors of Science from Purdue University. A LEED Accredited Professional, he is a member of the Young Real Estate Professionals organization and the treasurer of Purdue Sigma Chi House Corporation.
